During the preparation for pregnancy, follicle monitoring is often considered a crucial step. Whether choosing natural conception or assisted methods such as US-Mexico IVF or US-Mexico egg freezing, scientifically tracking follicle development helps doctors determine the best timing for egg retrieval and embryo transfer, thereby increasing the chances of a successful pregnancy.
Follicle monitoring does not mean daily examinations are required. Typically, if a woman has a regular menstrual cycle, doctors may recommend the first ultrasound monitoring around day 8 of the cycle. For women with irregular cycles, monitoring may start on day 3. Afterward, follow-ups are scheduled every two to three days depending on follicle development, allowing timely adjustment of ovarian stimulation medication. This approach enables doctors to accurately assess follicle maturity and decide the optimal time for egg retrieval.
Follicle development follows certain patterns. At the beginning of a menstrual cycle, multiple follicles start growing, but only one or two usually mature into dominant follicles. For women with a 28-day cycle, follicle growth typically begins between days 3 and 5, reaching peak size and preparing for ovulation around day 14. On average, follicles grow about 1.5 mm per day, with growth slightly accelerating in the days leading up to ovulation. Regular monitoring allows doctors to track these changes precisely and seize the right moment.
In the entire IVF-PGT process, the importance of follicle monitoring lies not only in determining egg retrieval timing but also in reducing risks. Too few follicles may result in a limited number of retrievable eggs, while excessive or abnormal follicle development could lead to ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome. Through ultrasound and hormone level testing, doctors can promptly detect abnormalities, adjust medication, and safeguard both safety and success rates.
Beyond medical monitoring, lifestyle choices also play an essential role. During preparation, women should avoid intense exercise and heavy labor, but maintaining a normal daily rhythm often helps ease psychological stress. A diet rich in protein, vitamins, and easily digestible foods—such as fish, meat, shrimp, fresh fruits, and vegetables—is recommended, while avoiding irritating foods or those that may cause diarrhea.
If symptoms such as bloating, gastrointestinal discomfort, reduced urination, shortness of breath, or minor vaginal bleeding occur during monitoring or medication, immediate medical attention is necessary to avoid delaying treatment. Maintaining a calm mindset, combined with scientific monitoring and adjustment, can significantly improve IVF success rates.
